Headless COM Automation

Drives Vis Mockup with no clicks through its COM server VFFrame.Application: open a JT, read the tree, find, measure, read metadata, set the camera, snapshot, section, show PMI, capture and export.

Teamcenter Visualization 2606 64-bit, product version 2606.0.26134, plus the 2606.2610 update, installed silently on 2026-10-29 (EXERCISED). Both MSI logs end in Installation success or error status: 0.

The kits

TcVis_2606_win64.7z, 3.2 GB, the base.
TcVis_2606.2610_win64.exe, 47 MB, a 7-Zip self-extractor holding one .msp.

Both are signed CN=Siemens Industry Software Inc. Windows’ own tar -xf unpacks both, so 7-Zip is not needed.

Prerequisites

Running the MSI directly (not setup.exe) skips the bundled prerequisites, so check them first: VC++ 2022 x86 Minor 31 or later and x64 Minor 41 or later under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\VC\Runtimes\<arch>, plus WebView2. The install script runs the bundled vc_redist installers when they are missing.

Silent install and patch

The base MSI is Teamcenter_Visualization_2606_win64.msi, product code {1CE2A363-4464-463E-8D76-D8B6C537F438}; the patch targets exactly that code. The Mockup feature names were checked against the MSI’s Feature table (107 features) with a fake-name control: an unknown name fails msiexec with 2711.

scripts/Install-Vis2606.ps1 in the repo does all of it and then reads back what Windows Installer recorded (the installed version) and whether VFFrame.Application is registered. It needs an administrator PowerShell, so a person runs it: a stored credential cannot elevate UAC.

Licence

LICENSE_TYPE=2 SERVER_NAME=29000@<host> points Vis at the Siemens License Server. The n_visview_mockup features were present on the server, and the app launched and was automated with no licence prompt.

Python

Python with pywin32. If pywin32 is in the user site-packages, do not run with python -I: isolated mode cannot import win32com.

Read back after install

VFFrame.Application CLSID {50BE6892-9BD6-11D1-88EB-006097D423FB}.
LocalServer32 ...\Products\Mockup\VisView.exe, a launcher; the GUI runs as VisView_NG.exe.
Then run the smoke test on an installed example: python tools/vis_smoke.py <model.jt> --out out.
